Palin Rally - Carson, CA

On Saturday afternoon we faced down the perfect traffic storm to attend the Palin rally.

With our two daughters in tow, we stood in line with 20,000 other conservative. It was incredible standing on the floor of the Home Depot Tennis Center and know that you could speak freely to anyone standing around you. Meg Whitman and Jon Voight kicked things off and got the crowd excited. But, it was the chants of Sarah, Sarah, Sarah that really got crowd going.

Through it all I was most proud of my daughter, age 8. She made her way to the front of the crowd and was able to watch Mrs. Palin from steps away.

At her Westside public school she is proudly asserting that we are supporting McCain-Palin and, better yet, understands why. I am so grateful for this opportunity to talk to my daughter about conservative v. liberal ideals; how her daddy and I believe that all life has value; how we believe that government is more often the problem, than the solution; how democracy must be defended at all costs; how socialism is not our ideal.

We are teaching our children how to hold these ideals dear, but to respect others' opinions as well, for on November 5th we will all be neighbors.

A liberal democrat spent the weekend with me. This was the second time in 2 weeks I had out of town guests that were anti-Palin. It is exhausting. Their arguments are so transparent.

This last one, I was calm for 48 hours then I cracked. She told me that Palin's dad was surprised and "not very confident" in his daughter's ability to be VP. I don't know the source of that claim, but all the same I argued that my dad, her dad, didn't think we'd be anything but homemakers or teachers. This friend, weekend guest, is a successful lawyer, out pacing most of her male partners. Her dad was a LAWYER. I just didn't get it. Why not hear her out. Why rush to judgment based on pop media and spin? How cool is that?

This successful female lawyer supported Hillary - saying she knew what she stood for...hahahaha - but refused to give an unknown candidate, male or female, the benefit of a few weeks to get to know Palin. Strange, she now supports Obama who was virtually unknown before the primary. What's up?
